Police are investigating the homicide of a Springfield man that occurred overnight.

Police say Benjamin S. Jester, 30, was found with "what appeared to be a gunshot wound," lying on the ground bleeding. Police say Jester was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police were called to 2126 N. Main Ave. around 1:19 a.m. after a caller said they heard noises and found Jester lying on the ground.

The Criminal Investigations Section is conducting an investigation of the scene, police say.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and are asking that anyone with information call 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.
