A man has been charged in a Tuesday morning police chase and crash that left more than 1,000 people in Greene County without power.

Shane Tiller, 36, was charged Wednesday with resisting arrest in an altercation that took place after deputies responded to a report of someone stealing an air conditioning unit from Lighthouse Church, in the 5200 block of North Farm Road 151.

On the way to the scene, a deputy saw a truck driving in the opposite direction with an air conditioning unit in the truck bed, according to court documents.

When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, documents say, the driver — later identified as Tiller — fled at high speed, running red lights and forcing other vehicles off the road before crashing into a power pole at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Pacific Street.

Tiller then exited the vehicle and attempted to enter a nearby parked car, documents say.

Tiller was ordered out by deputies, continuing to resist arrest, according to authorities, and taken into custody.

Jordan Dickson, a passenger in Tiller's truck, was transported from the scene by a medical unit.

Documents say deputies were later able to collect photographs of Tiller and Dickson loading an air conditioning unit into the back of their truck, but charges related to the alleged theft have not been filed.

Tiller's bond was set at $50,000. He does not currently have an attorney listed in online court documents.
