Springfield Police respond to the scene where a City Utilities bus was hit with a bullet shot during a nearby altercation in Springfield, Mo. on July 2, 2015.

A Thursday evening bus ride became a lot more eventful than some Springfield commuters were expecting when police say someone shot the bus as it sat at a stoplight.

Lt. Eric Reece with the Springfield Police Department said the City Utilities bus was northbound on Fort Avenue, preparing to turn east onto Grand Street, when a single bullet came through the door and ricocheted around within the bus.

None of the 12 people on the bus were injured, Reece said.

Reece said investigators had determined there had been a disturbance near Fort and Grand around the time of the shooting, and had obtained information that a suspect had fired a weapon several times during this disturbance.

Reece said police had also interviewed a woman whose car was hit with a bullet while she was in the same area. The investigation is ongoing.
