Police say two Springfield men agreed to a fist fight earlier this month, but one of them brought a knife.

Jeffrey Brockman

Jeffrey Brockman, 32, was charged with first-degree assault after police say he stabbed his neighbor twice during an altercation outside of a home in the Grant Beach neighborhood.

According to a probable cause statement, Brockman was feuding with his neighbors because Brockman believed one of them informed his girlfriend about his possible infidelity.

Brockman and his neighbor agreed to meet on Jan. 2 outside of a home in the 800 block of West Locust Street for a fist fight, the statement says.

When the two men met, however, Brockman quickly brandished a sharp object and stabbed the other man in the arm and armpit, according to the statement.

Brockman fled the scene, but he was arrested a few days later, the statement says.

The victim allegedly told police Brockman had stabbed him with a butterfly knife. Brockman, however, told authorities it was a sharp piece of metal that he found on the road, according to the statement.

The statement says the victim was hospitalized and possibly had an artery severed in his arm.

Brockman is being held in the Greene County Jail on $20,000 bond. He does not have an attorney listed for this case.

Court documents say Brockman has prior felony convictions for burglary and tampering with a motor vehicle.
