Former Christian County sheriff self-surrenders at Terre Haute prison as ordered
Nearly a year after pleading guilty to embezzlement and aiding a fraud scheme, a former Christian County Sheriff is serving time at a prison in Indiana.
Earlier this year, Joey Kyle was ordered to self-surrender on April 7 for a sentence of a year and one day and is now being housed at the Terre Haute Federal Correctional Institute, according to a Bureau of Prisons database.
The medium security prison in Terre Haute is about a 6-hour drive from Christian County and houses 1,231 inmates — all men, according to the Bureau of Prisons.
When asked whether Kyle, as a former law enforcement official, would receive any special considerations in the prison, a spokesperson said via email that the Bureau of Prison "maintain safe and secure facilities for individuals throughout its system."
Terre Haute Federal Correctional Institute is part of a larger a prison complex in Terre Haute that also has a high security penitentiary.
Shortly after Kyle's plea agreement was announced in May, Don Ledford, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney Western District of Missouri, told the News-Leader the extra one day in Kyle's sentence would make him eligible for early release for good behavior.
"It's a matter of days," Ledford said at the time.
