Authorities say a Republic man stole whiskey from a convenience store and later called 911 in an intoxicated state and made a reference to his own theft.

Timothy W. Henderson, 34, of Republic, is charged with theft, second-degree assault and resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony in connection with the incident, which took place in the late night and early morning hours of Sept. 7 and 8.

According to a probable cause statement prepared by Republic police, a Kum & Go employee confronted Henderson as he walked out the door with a bottle of commercially-labeled American Honey whiskey and two cans of Smith Forge Cider. The employee saw Henderson enter a car with a license plate that was later found to be registered to his name.

When the employee was in front of the vehicle trying to read the license plate, according to the statement, Henderson "put the vehicle in drive and proceeded to try and run him over."

About 1:30 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Miller Road in reference to "an intoxicated male who called 911 making a reference about the 'robbery' earlier," according to the statement. The caller had refused to identify himself or provide an address, but dispatch had traced his phone number.

Upon arrival, according to the statement, the officer found Henderson drinking the whiskey, with a empty can of cider beside him. The car was parked at the residence.

When an officer informed Henderson he was under arrest, according to the statement, he refused to stand up, and an officer had to use a bent arm bar technique to take Henderson "in a forward motion down onto the ground."

Henderson was released on $7,500 bond, according to online court records. He has a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
