A memorial for Andrea “Angie” Anderson, 50, and her son Kevin Anderson, 35, has popped up at the house at 752 S. Newton Ave. where they were killed last Friday.

The man who police believe killed his ex-girlfriend and her adult son in a Springfield home last week was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday in southeast Arkansas.

Willie D. Clark Jr., 51, was taken into custody after a five-day manhunt that started just after noon on Friday when police say Clark shot two people to death and wounded another in a home at 752 S. Newton Ave. in Springfield.

Andrea "Angie" Anderson, 50 and her son Kevin Anderson, 35, died in the shooting. Another son, Ronald Anderson, was shot several times but survived by "playing opossum," according to a probable cause statement.

The police tape that surrounded the home on Newton Avenue last week had been replaced Tuesday with balloons, candles and signs calling Andrea and Kevin "true angels."

Clark has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree assault. U.S. Marshals and Arkansas State Police found Clark hiding in a residence in McGehee, Ark. on Tuesday.

The probable statement says Clark was Andrea's ex-boyfriend and he came by the house shortly before noon on Friday. Ronald told police he heard Andrea and Clark — who goes by the nickname J.C. — arguing and that Clark had recently been feuding with another one of Andrea's ex-boyfriends, the statement says.

Ronald said he walked into the kitchen and Clark followed him, asking Ronald if he had a problem. Ronald told police Clark was "looking at me crazy" and then pulled out a gun and fired a shot which grazed Ronald in the stomach, according to a probable cause statement.

Ronald believed the shot was a "scare tactic," so he walked into another room where Kevin was sitting in a chair, the statement says.

A short time later, Ronald said he heard a shot come from the front of the house, the statement says. Clark then came to the room where Ronald and Kevin were sitting and shot the two men, according to the statement.

Ronald told police he "played opossum" and pretended to be dead so Clark would not shoot him again, the statement says.

When Clark left the room, Ronald broke out the back window and ran to a neighbor's house asking for help but he was unable to get in touch with anyone, the statement says.

Nicole Murphy lives next door to where the shooting occurred. She said she had just put her children down for a nap around noon on Friday when a man started pounding on her door yelling for help.

Murphy said the man broke her bay window and left blood all over her porch. She said she called 911 but did not open the door because of concern for the safety of her children.

When Clark drove away, Ronald went back into the house to call 911 and he noticed Andrea and Kevin were both dead, according to the statement.

The statement says several of Clark's family members contacted police with information about the homicides. Workers at the Alpha House halfway house where Clark lives told police Clark was supposed to be back at the house by 2 p.m. on Friday but he never showed up.

Regina Devor lives across the street from the home at 752 S. Newton Ave. She said Andrea and Kevin were nice people who kept to themselves.

Devor said Andrea did not work because she suffered from emphysema, but she enjoyed going to church and visiting with her grandchildren.

A sign on the window on Tuesday said "R.I.P. Granny and Uncle Kevin."
