Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams issued a news release on Wednesday saying officer Aaron Pearson suffered "career-ending injuries" when he was shot early Monday morning.

The release says Pearson suffered injuries to his brain which will require long-term rehabilitation and care.

Williams and Pearson's family wanted to update the community on Pearson's condition and thank the community for its support, according to the release.

The release says countless community members, business owners and law enforcement agencies have inquired about Pearson's condition and how they can help.

Joshua Hagood, 32, was charged on Wednesday in connection to Pearson's shooting.
