Police say a man was stabbed to death Wednesday night in a Springfield home.

Lt. Mike Lucas with the Springfield Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 600 block of East University Street at about 7:45 p.m. after a woman made a frantic 911 call.

The woman told officers there was a disturbance going on inside the home, which is at the corner of Holland Avenue. When officers went inside the home they found a dead man, according to Lucas.

Lucas said officers poured into the area and located a person of interest. Lucas said that man was being questioned by police on Wednesday night in addition to some witnesses.

Lucas said it appears everyone involved in the incident knew one another. Police had not determined a motive as of Wednesday night.

"This neighborhood is typically a very peaceful quiet type neighborhood," Lucas said. "For the people that live in the adjacent area, there's nothing for them to worry about."

Police have not released the names of anyone involved.

This is the city's sixth homicide of 2016 and first since March.
