Officers were dispatched to the Simmons Bank at 2809 E. Sunshine St. at 8:30 a.m. after a man robbed the bank by passing a note to the teller demanding cash, according to Springfield police.

Police say the suspect left in a car, and a witness followed him north through town before authorities caught up and arrested the suspect at Kearney Street and LeCompte Avenue.

Police say the FBI will handle the investigation going forward.

This is the second time since June the Simmons Bank on East Sunshine Street has been robbed.
