A 10-year-old child drove her family's minivan about a mile down a Greene County highway to a trailer park near Republic on Thursday morning, according to a press release from sheriff's office.

The release said multiple people called authorities about a child driving a minivan from a gas station at the intersection of State Highway MM and Highway 60 to the Alpine Village trailer park.

Sheriff's deputies located the van and contacted a man who was arrested for several outstanding warrants, the release said. The man's relationship to the child was not explained in the release. Criminal charges are expected to be submitted to the prosecutor's office regarding this incident.

"The decisions this person made could have ended in a very tragic situation for several innocent people," Sheriff Jim Arnott said in the release. "Thankfully, the outcome wasn't different and no one was injured."

According to the release, the girl is safe and in the custody of her mother.
