Alex Ashlin, 18, was riding in a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo traveling west on Route V, three miles south of Joplin, when it collided with an eastbound 2015 Hyundai Elantra, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle wreck was reported at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Newton County Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems pronounced Ashlin dead at the scene of the accident along with both of the people in the Hyundai — Ronni Docummun, 32, of Wentzville, who was driving; and Janet Ducommun, 67, of Neosho, who was riding in the vehicle.

According to the patrol report, the Isuzu driven by McKay Harris, 17, of Neosho, crossed the center line and struck the Hyundai.

Harris, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

The patrol reports Ashlin and Harris were not wearing a seat belt but both individuals in the Hyundai were wearing a seat belt.
